Beyond the Pulse: Why we built Cordys Analytics

"Healthcare is creaking and groaning. There are too few doctors, and the demand for care is increasing."

This observation from our CEO, John van den Berg, reflects a reality faced by healthcare systems across Europe. With populations aging and the prevalence of cardiac conditions rising, the pressure on medical professionals is immense.

At Cordys Analytics, this challenge is what drives us. We are dedicated to developing tools designed to support cardiology departments in navigating these growing demands.

We recently sat down with ROM Utrecht Region to share our story in a short video. Here is a look at the vision and science behind Cordys.

Born from Clinical Research

The foundation of Cordys Analytics was laid at the University Medical Center (UMC) Utrecht. Our co-founder, Dr. Rutger van de Leur, began exploring the intersection of data science and cardiology during his PhD research.

He identified a significant opportunity: while Artificial Intelligence (AI) holds potential for analyzing Electrocardiograms (ECGs), the bridge between advanced algorithms and daily clinical practice is often missing. Our mission began with the goal of building that bridge, connecting technological innovation with the doctors who need it.

The Science of Pattern Recognition

In the video, our Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. René van Es, explains the technical approach behind our platform. Our algorithms are trained on vast datasets of ECGs. The goal of this training is to teach the software to recognize subtle patterns and deviations that correspond to specific cardiac parameters.

By leveraging smart algorithms, we aim to provide a robust layer of support for clinicians, helping them process data efficiently and focus their expertise where it matters most.

Our Vision: Supporting the Healthcare Workforce

The core philosophy at Cordys is about empowerment. As John shares in the film, our vision is to help doctors maintain high standards of care even as patient volumes increase.

We believe that by automating routine analysis and organizing diagnostic data, we can help streamline the clinical workflow. The ultimate goal is to give time back to healthcare professionals, allowing them to focus on patient interaction and complex decision-making.
